Where Subnautica 2 Stands
Subnautica 2 entered Early Access on May 14, 2026. Within the first 12 hours it sold over 2 million copies — a record for the series and one of the strongest Early Access debuts on Steam in recent years. The game launched with the opening chapter of its story, multiple biomes, fully functional 4-player co-op, and a rebuilt base-building system running on Unreal Engine 5.
Unknown Worlds has committed to an open development process throughout Early Access — the same approach they used on the original Subnautica and Natural Selection 2. The published roadmap covers multiple planned update phases including new biomes, a new vehicle, additional story chapters, and endgame systems. Full release is currently estimated around 2028.
The Early Access price is $29.99. Unknown Worlds has stated the price will increase at full release, as it did with the original game. The current content is described by the studio as "bigger and more polished" than any of their previous Early Access launches.
